Third annual Sea Paddle NYC will aid autism awareness – Aug 24th 0

Third annual Sea Paddle NYC will aid autism awareness – Aug 24th

New York, NY — Last August, after a successful inaugural event, Surfers’ Environmental Alliance organized a group of over 80 surfers, including several professional surfing legends, to paddle 28 miles around NYC in the name of autism awareness and coastal preservation.

The second annual SEA Paddle NYC received international attention, along with the White Water Gala fundraiser held prior to the paddle, which raised money for four autism awareness groups: Autism Speaks, Autism New Jersey, Autism Family Services of New Jersey and Surfers Healing & SEA.

Because of the incredible success of the past two years, SEA Paddle NYC will again be taking place this year. The White Water Gala will be held on Saturday, August 22, with the paddle event occurring on Monday, August 24.

Darrick Doerner, Garrett McNamara, Izzy Paskowitz and Joel Tudor are just some of the surf legends already confirmed to participate in this year’s event, along with several surprise acting and musical personalities.

Celebrities, including actor, David Chokachi and X-treme athlete, Darian Boyle are returning to participate. Chokachi, who is best known for his role as Cody in “Baywatch”, is a surfer starring in a television series called “Beyond the Break,” which premieres this month.

The Paddle will start at 9am on Monday, August 24th at Pier 1 South Street Sea Port.  Paddlers will go up the East River, enter the Harlem River and come down the Hudson paddling 28 miles to circumnavigate Manhattan.

The White Water Evening Gala is a white themed event held on an ocean front estate in Monmouth Beach, NJ with all proceeds going to autism charities & SEA. The event features great live music, a silent and live auction, autograph session and an open bar catered by top local restaurants. The auctions will feature unique packages with donations pouring in from local residents including rocker Bon Jovi.

Peniche Portugal Announced as Location for 2009 Rip Curl Pro Search Event 0

Rip Curl Pro Search

ASP World Tour event #9
Peniche Portugal
19 – 28 October 2009

Peniche, Portugal — Rip Curl International has today officially announced that the coastal town of Peniche, Portugal, will host this year’s Rip Curl Pro Search, Stop No. 9 of 10 on the 2009 ASP World Tour – to be held October 19 to 28.

The location has been a mystery to most all season, but today’s official press launch in the Portuguese capital of Lisbon unveiled the secret to media and the surfing industry.

“We’re excited about today’s announcement and even more excited to see the industry’s reaction to our decision to hold this year’s Rip Curl Pro Search in the beautiful country of Portugal,” said Scott Hargreaves, Rip Curl Event Manager. “The country has a lot of great waves and we’ve decided to lock in Peniche’s ’Supertubos’ as our event spot. It’s a five-star wave and one of the best beachbreak tubes in the world!”

Supertubos is a powerful A-frame barrel that feeds off deep Atlantic Ocean swells and handles waves up to the 12-15ft (4-5m). Many surfers have nicknamed it the “European Pipeline” due to its similarities to Hawaii’s infamous Banzai Pipeline.

“The wave breaks all year, but the North Atlantic Ocean swells peak in the later part of Europe’s summer,” continued Mr. Hargreaves. “This is why we’ve created the event window in October, instead of the June-July period we’ve had for the past four years.”
The change of schedule will also make this year’s Rip Curl Pro Search the second-to-last event on the ASP Men’s World Tour calendar, meaning for the first time it could be the event where this year’s ASP World Champion is crowned.

Nathan Fletcher is a strange and extraordinary person, and shows this in his direction of the film. Nathan was given complete creative direction for “Lavase Las Manos”, and had a tight editing team including Pete Santa Maria and Regan Ritchie.
