Rusty is proud to announce the addition of 20-year-old Balinese ripper Mega Semadhi to the surf team. Hailing from Bali’s famed Bukit Peninsula – home to iconic breaks such as Uluwatu, Padang Padang, and Bingin – Mega honed his tuberiding and aerial skills at an early age and has fast become an internationally recognized talent.

“We are very excited to have Mega on board,” said Rusty Indonesia’s Kane Faint. “Mega’s progressive, innovative surfing is the perfect fit for Rusty. I’m looking forward to watching him take his surfing to the next level.”

“It’s great to start the year fresh, knowing that Rusty is behind me 100%” said Mega. “Some of my favorite surfers ride for Rusty so I’m really happy to be part of the team.”

In 2010 Mega plans to build on his international profile while continuing to compete on the Indonesian Surfing Championship tour. You can catch him in the Ulu’s lineup whenever it’s pumping – throw him a shaka and he might call you into a wave!

Wave World Tour Champion

Finisterre’s first ambassador, Carlos Burle, was crowned the first Big Wave World Tour Champion this weekend after a non-stop year of tackling the world biggest waves. The overall tour win marks the culmination of an outstanding season in the big wave world that was marked by quality swell that delivered across the big wave locales.

Tom Kay, Finisterre founder remarked, “We have seen Carlos at his best throughout the season. Every week it seems we receive a little message from far away shores of the latest session, consistently pushing the limits of what is imaginable, before jetting off on the promise of a fresh chart and a new swell.”

Toes on the Nose recycles
sailboat sails to make boardshorts

Laid back surf-inspired apparel company Toes on the Nose introduces limited edition, U.S.-made board shorts crafted entirely of discarded sailboat sails for their summer 2010 collection.

The “2nd Wind Project” is Toes on the Nose’s personal effort at reducing the carbon footprint of old discarded sailboat sails.  The recycled sailcloth is used to produce handmade, limited edition board shorts, board bags and beach bags that are manufactured entirely in California.

Each garment, individually, uniquely, and locally crafted, results in a higher-than-average traditional board short cost, retailing between $95 to $125.  Customers however, are happy to pay the premium for its distinctiveness.  Production of these one-of-a-kind board shorts, board bags and beach bags are already in the works and will be available soon.

The 2nd Wind Project was released in January at Orlando, Florida’s Surf Expo and at the recent Outdoor Retailer show in Salt Lake City, Utah.  Orders are coming in from boutiques, sailing clubs and surf shops across the United States, Hawaii and throughout the Caribbean.

“The 2nd Wind Project gives us a chance to use recycled material in creating unique, one-of-a-kind pieces to incorporate into our collection,” said Richard Allred, Toes on the Nose president.  “As a company dedicated to the art of surfing, it is important for us to do our part in keeping our oceans and earth clean.”
