On shore winds and 4ft waves cause the event to be called off today. Billabong Pro Contest Director, Luke Egan, says:

“We obviously don’t have the idyllic conditions that graced us yesterday with the swell a bit lump and the wind onshore. We’ve called competition off for the day, but are monitoring swell and winds for the coming days and it looks like we may be running again soon. We’ll be back tomorrow morning to make another decision.”

A article recently published by San Diego State University (SDSU), argues that cigarette butts should have new disposal requirements and be labeled “hazardous waste” because they are non-biodegradable and filled with residues, tars, and particulate.

SDSU Public Health Professor, Tom Novotny, says cigarette butts are the number one littered substance in the world and that “when they unconsciously throw their butts onto the ground, it’s not just litter, it’s a toxic hazardous waste product.”

Dean Morrison, bouncing back from last years hip injury, wins the day by racking 9.0 wave and scoring the highest heat of the day (17.0/20).
